Alcoholism: Is it Abuse or Dependency?

I add that to drink continuously leads to drunkeness. Yes, fermented and the factory made drink today are totally different. Fermented wine actually has health benefits. A little wine is good for the stomach.(1 Timothy 5:23). However, as with anything people tend to overdue it and become drunk. God says don’t do it (Ephesians 5:18 )

There are limits to everything we do that are not to control us but to keep us safe. Although the bible permits drinking of wine we are encouraged to take precaution and care not to get drunk. Horrible things can occur when someone has had too much…addiction can occur, rapes, murders and most sin of the sexual nature can occur.

For example, when Noah was drunk his son saw his nakedness; whether it was his son seeing his wife or whether it was his son seeing him the thing is something bad came from that which probably never happened had Noah not been drunk. Now Noah’s son has a baby by Noah’s wife. We can’t be watchmen drunk out of our minds,

Almost always when people drink or take some mind altering substance the chance of some sin occurring is greater than if there had not been influence of the substance.

The bible doesn’t mention drugs either, but now there is rampant use and all center around the drug alcohol.

One last note;

“Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:” (Leviticus 10:9)

I believe that every crime against the church has been committed by someone who has an alcoholic spirit. No one working or playing with a full deck would dare rob a church, nor, would they be bold enough to enter the church under the influence of anything other than the Holy Spirit…but some one will come and taint the sacred place. But people do and all are not seeking help. People are evil and will do anything against the holiness of God stuff….be careful out there…

Please understand the seriousness of entering church still drunk from the night before…sitting in the balcony or on the back pew does not negate the fact that you are drunk. It would be better to stay at home and repent. You are not doing God a favor showing up not in your right mind and certainly not fooling him. I couldn’t care if I see you or not. However; Let this warning serve that you are doing no one a favor by showing up after a night of partying and drinking…sleep it off and repent. God forgives us when we ask. I know you didn’t know that it was a sin to show up still drunk at church…now you do.

Amen…and don’t forget Eli’s sons Hophni and Phinehas went in the temple drunk and ate the shew bread…God killed them and then punished Eli for not doing anything about them in the first place.

A stern message for all parents who know their kids are doing wrong in the eyes of God and sit there and let them do it. (1 Samuel 2:12-17)

Amen and the alcoholic does drink to get drunk…this is the intent with the first drink; that is, to keep drinking until the pain or the problem seems small or doesn’t matter.

How many have said or heard someone say, “I need a drink, I need to relax…we can easily read this to mean, “a drink is going to change my thoughts, I need help to relax, I need help to forget.” In actuality the thought is the drink is going to change my thought; thus, change the way I feel because my thought changes.

However, not everybody needs help to change their thinking, nor do they need to forget stuff hurtful. So the thought that I need to change my thoughts, I need to forget doesn’t come as often.

For the alcoholic everyday is a day of celebration as long as they can drink, everyday is a day of sadness, because it is another reason to drink. If your daughter graduates and I am an alcoholic; her day is a reason for me to drink. The car won’t start, a bill came…anything.

Alcohol lowers inhibitions so that we think we are the life of the party and chances are we are ruining the party. This is not the case with someone who has an occasional drink, or it can be the case with someone who cannot handle even one beer.

However, in many cases of the weekend binge is a sign that there is a problem but doesn’t mean that the person is alcoholic. The alcoholic cannot go from one weekend to next weekend without a drink…abuse is not dependency.

Here is a good definition for the two: What are alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence? Alcohol abuse means having unhealthy or dangerous drinking habits, such as drinking every day or drinking too much at a time. Alcohol abuse can harm your relationships, cause you to miss work, and lead to legal problems such as driving while drunk (intoxicated). When you abuse alcohol, you continue to drink even though you know your drinking is causing problems.

If you continue to abuse alcohol, it can lead to alcohol dependence. Alcohol dependence is also called alcoholism. You are physically or mentally addicted to alcohol. You have a strong need, or craving, to drink. You feel like you must drink just to get by.

You might be dependent on alcohol if you have three or more of the following problems in a year:

You cannot quit drinking or control how much you drink. You need to drink more to get the same effect. You have withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking. These include feeling sick to your stomach, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety. You spend a lot of time drinking and recovering from drinking, or you have given up other activities so you can drink. You have tried to quit drinking or to cut back the amount you drink but haven’t been able to. You continue to drink even though it harms your relationships and causes physical problems. Alcoholism is a long-term (chronic) disease. It’s not a weakness or a lack of willpower. Like many other diseases, it has a course that can be predicted, has known symptoms, and is influenced by your genes and your life situation.

also men and women are different in the consumption and effects of alcohol…women get drunk faster than men. For the average man and woman weight is a factor…one to two beers for a woman and she can become drunk; where as, a 6 pack and a man can become drunk. No woman can drink or hold her liquor like a man unless she weighs as much as man.

Also, women get more DWI‘s and blow negative on breathalyzers than men do. Why? They weigh less.

Alcohol is the same chemical used during surgery as anesthesia to put you to sleep plus water added. Alcohol is a depressant so people might be europhoric then after a while they pass out…

Stopping alcohol can be dangerous or even deadly for someone who drinks all day every day none stop because of delirium tremors. Why? Their body is so accustomed to the alcohol that it literally goes into shock without it…this person needs medical treatment and monitoring.

Really bad for anyone…cause liver damage and other malfunctions of the body system.

This is big one…when you are drunk and throwing up…this is your bodies way of telling you it is poisoned…the alcohol has literally affected your body so that your body is now rejecting it in an effort to save your life….this is how the college binge drinkerswent to sleep and didn’t wake up; they were poisoned.

There is nothing fun about it…and if you wake up with a hang over this is because you were poisoned the night before and your body is basically telling you it is sick; that alcohol could have killed me….

And I add an alcoholic who drinks and knows everything I have said is…is a smart alcoholic, because knowing all this doesn’t stop the alcoholic from drinking. Thanks for the reminder that I made the right choice to quit…I serve the TRUE AND LIVING GOD.
