Spiritual Circumcision Hurts
God doesn’t discriminate. We should get this word because he is no respecter of anyone…meaning that the same things he does for me, those same things he can and will for you also. But there is something necessary to obtain the favor of the Most High, because some think that once they give their lives to God and get saved that is all there is…they stop there and never move forward. Why?
After careful observation and reflection of my own sad and unfruitful life I discovered that unless there is change then there is no change of the heart or of the situation. We then go back the that same thing we fled from and found so horrible in the first place. Very sad when you consider the horror of a life that so desperately ran to the cross for help in the first place.
So as I continue to ponder my plight and so many others still struggling to break free of those chains that bind: once again I’m met with the realization that in order to move I move let go….and letting go hurts. Today I want to talk about circumcision hurts….the cutting a way of the layers of uselessness, hopelessness, past issues and hurt that serve no purpose for God; Spiritual Circumcision hurts!
What is circumcision? Well it’s a most painful procedure in the physical that some male infants endure at birth or shortly after. We won’t get into that…but I was told that it doesn’t hurt the newborn because they have no knowledge of pain. But I have to call a lie what it is, because from the screams of my son I could tell he was in severe pain; still according to the word that’s surface….temporal, earthly, fleshly…babies, flesh?
“Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you.
Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, (and) look out for those who mutilate the flesh. For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh—”(Philippians 3:1-3)
Circumcision to the things of the spirit is a rite of passage so when we speak of the things of God we have to know that one doesn’t just go there automatically just like that…it takes some cutting and pruning. Here’s why, because to become that which God wants us to be calls for change. Changing our sinful minds to become like Christ’s requires cutting a way the things we’ve learned, things that we came to this world with that is sin….circumcision hurts; it’s spiritual.
I was watching a film in class about these young boys who aspired to become men. They had to go through the rite of passage and be circumcised. Well it couldn’t be done in their homes so the other men in the city took them out of the neighborhoods into the bush and built them each huts of their own. While that was going on the young men had their foreskins removed and were then left alone to deal their pain.
So then we see that not only does circumcision hurt but we must deal with alone, meaning that no one can take your pain for you, because it’s our rite to passage. We can also see that the pain makes us stronger because we’ve done away with the foreskin (old life) when we came to the cross. We must also see that this a process, because the pain just doesn’t go away overnight….it has to be deal with until we are healed, the soreness gone from the hurt and pain…again it’s a process.
To be righteous and holy requires circumcision the cutting away of old behavior useless in the kingdom. Good lesson….it’s a heart condition, a cleansing process.
